Cheers to Two Years: Looking back at Some of Robert Hall’s Most Memorable Events

Cheers to Two Years: Looking back at Some of Robert Hall’s Most Memorable Events

Did you know that October 2024 marks the two-year anniversary of Robert Hall?

In celebration, our dedicated team members are sharing their favorite events at Robert Hall and taking a moment to reflect on the clients, guests, and unique details that have made each of the gatherings memorable. Whether it was a Secret Supper Society event that featured costumes fit for a Jane Austen novel, a nonprofit event that left us feeling inspired, or a wedding that surrounded us with good energy (and even better drinks), each experience has played a role in shaping Robert Hall into the community space it is today.

Join us as we celebrate the memories we’ve created and look forward to many more years of remarkable events at Robert Hall!

It’s hard to pick my favorite event that we have had at Robert Hall because every event is unique and special. From the once-in-a-lifetime wedding celebrations, birthday parties, and fundraisers, we have been a part of so many beautiful moments!

But, I am a little bit biased towards the Secret Supper Society events because they speak to my love of entertaining and bringing people together. We have had incredible fun planning and creating those as a team. We tend to go overboard with our invitation design and decorations—it’s so much fun! Looking back I think the “Pride and Prejudinner” supper in March (this year’s first event) was the best theatrical experience we have had at Robert Hall. From the costumes and the singing, it was so wonderful to be able to work with The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem and Tara Raczenski on her very humorous stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Our guests all got in the spirit as well and came dressed for the theme!

I also absolutely had a blast at the Forsyth Woman’s Girls’ Night Out Galentine’s event. When I look back at those pictures I just see a group of women celebrating each other and their girlfriends. We decorated Robert Hall in pink and rose gold and had the disco balls to boot! I danced so much my legs hurt the next day.

Those two really stick out in my mind as being so fun, but also great gatherings for people. That is what brings me joy—I love creating environments and experiences that are memorable.

When asked about my favorite event to date, I always mention our film days with Pawn Stars. It was one of our very first events after opening in October of 2022 and it had everything I could have dreamed of—problem solving, crowd control, movie magic, happiness, long days, and tons of teamwork.

Our production days with Pawn Stars started early every morning with the setup of the COVID-19 testing lines. All of us had to be tested as well to ensure a COVID-free environment since this was being filmed just as the pandemic was starting to decline. Once that got set up,  the attendees would get tested then proceed to the waiting area. Once our guests were confirmed as clear, they could go where they were directed by other members of ITV’s production crew.

It was my job to ensure that the facility was running smoothly—I assisted the production crew and performed some crowd control. Sometimes we were lucky enough to be asked to fill in the background as extras when they filmed certain scenes. I also ran around town gathering local delights for the ITV Crew and the Pawn Stars guys to experience such as Bossy Beluhs, Deweys, and Bisquitville. On the final night, after five days of shooting, Rick Harrison invited us to join him for dinner where we indulged in great food and craft beer at Foothills Brewery.

Ultimately, we collaborated seamlessly with the Pawn Stars production crew, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Mary Elizabeth Brunstetter, Sales Manager

As Robert Hall’s Sales Manager, I get the pleasure of being the first point of contact for our clients. They come to us with an idea for their special event whether it be a wedding, reception, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, birthday party, or even a holiday party and I help them visualize that concept in our space. Kris, our Event Manager, and his magnificent team along with our bar partner, Thirsty Buffalo, bring that vision to life.

In some ways, I feel like I’m a part of every event, so it is difficult to choose a favorite. I would say the holiday parties are pretty amazing at our venue. We bring in a giant Christmas tree and deck the stairwell with holly. This year we have a group bringing in their own fire pit for our outdoor space. Our bar team creates craft cocktails with fun holiday themes. We provide an elevated holiday atmosphere for local businesses to celebrate the year end with their employees and families. It is truly magical!

One of my favorite Robert Hall Secret Supper Society dinners was our beach music event,

“Shag Dancin’ & Shrimp Boilin,’” in June of this year. We had lengthy discussions about music for the event and how to make it an authentic Carolina Beach experience. Thus, nothing would do but to have a live beach band—The Holiday Band—known for their Carolina Beach music expertise. Unlike most of our events that are held inside Robert Hall, we held this event outside  in The Garden area. We decorated with beach balls, sea shells, sand and sand buckets, flip flops, palm trees, and night-time lanterns. It didn’t take very long before almost everyone was up and dancing the Carolina Shag, or at least their version of The Carolina Shag. Thanks to my sister, Cheri, the two of us volunteered some Shag lessons to those that needed a little help with the eight-step rhythm. Chef Gunny treated us to a Low Country Boil and our bar service, Thirsty Buffalo, concocted some beach cocktails to top off the celebration.

“Shag Dancin’ & Shrimp Boilin’” took me back to the time in my life that I spent growing up going to the South and North Carolina beaches with my family and cooking seafood dishes while listening to beach music on the radio. I think the only thing missing that evening was the smell of the salt air and the sound of the waves on the beach!

In April 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting the Grogan Society’s Spring Social event at Robert Hall. The Grogan Society brings together individuals who are deeply committed to addressing the education, physical, social, and economic needs of families in our community. The vibrant atmosphere at Capone’s Bar set the stage for lively conversations, a delightful bourbon tasting courtesy of Winston-Salem’s Broad Branch Distillery, and a delectable spread prepared by The Board Babe.

This event holds a special place in my heart, as I grew up in Mills Home, a Baptist children’s home in Thomasville, North Carolina, which continues to support children in the state today. Being able to host nonprofit events like these at Robert Hall resonates with me deeply. I also want to highlight that as part of our business model, we offer rate discounts to verifiable nonprofit organizations like the Grogran Society, making it possible for them to host meaningful functions at Robert Hall. This commitment to supporting community-focused events is just one of the many reasons we’re proud to celebrate our two-year anniversary!

Weddings are always a magical celebration to witness and be a part of. Happy hour at Capone’s stunning 24-foot bar is unfailingly an impressive place to start the night off. Every bar menu is personally curated, ranging from handcrafted cocktails, to local beers brewed next door. I love being engulfed in the energetic hustle and bustle, where cheers are freely offered, and friends become family. Our goal at the bar is to create a memorable experience for both the host(s) and all of their guests. Robert Hall is unsurpassed as a gathering space for once-in-a-lifetime occasions.
